Soleares

Called by gypsies La Madre de Cante (The Mother of Song), this is considered the eldest of form of flamenco. It derives its name form soledad (loneliness or solitutde). It is slow and serious and example of cante jondo (Deep song), with often profoud and moving lyrics. Soleares and the dances that derive from it (alegrías and bulerías) share a distinctibve rhythmic structure, of 12 beats with accents on beats 3,6,8,10 and 12.

Alegrías

Spanish for happiness, these share the same compás (rhythm) as the sloeares, but are more quickly and in a major key
